Palafox in seventh place after recording best one-game score

Janiesse Palafox of Baldwin High School had the top girls game in Thursday’s two sessions of the Billy Tees State Bowling Championships at Hickam Bowling Center on Oahu, and ended the day in seventh place.

Palafox had a high game of 231 and a six-game total of 1,065. Mililani’s Danielle August was in the lead with an 1,175 total that included games of 204, 203 and 200.

Palafox had the second-best average in the Maui Interscholastic League this year, behind teammate Kristen Espania-Kaeo, who ended Thursday in 21st place with a 918. Her high game was a 175.

Baldwin was seventh in the team standings with a score of 4,261. Pearly City led with a 5,132, and Sacred Hearts (4,990) was second.

In the boys competition, Maui High’s Brendan Baker (1,065) was in 16th place, Trent Hori (1,061) was tied for 17th and Codey Ku-haulua (1,059) was 19th. Baker’s high game was a 202, Hori’s was a 211 and Kuhaulua’s was a 209.

Hori was this year’s MIL medalist, and Baker was second.

Nicholas Azumi of Pearl City led with a 1,274 that included games of 245, 237 and 221.

The Sabers’ 4,761 team score left them in eighth place. Pearl City (5,847) held the lead, and Hawaii Baptist (5,353) was second.

The Chargers have won the last three boys team titles, and the last two girls crowns.
