Seabury to play for fifth
Seabury Hall earned the Maui Interscholastic League’s first victory at this year’s New City Nissan Girls Volleyball State Championships on Thursday, defeating Roosevelt 25-23, 25-14 in a Division II fifth-place semifinal at the Kaimuki gym on Oahu.
In the Division I tournament, Kahuku eliminated fourth-seeded Kamehameha Maui 25-22, 25-15 at the Big Island’s Keaau gym.
The second-seeded Spartans, last year’s state runners-up, will play for fifth place today against top-seeded University, which beat No. 4 Radford 25-23, 25-19 on Thursday.
MIL teams have gone 1-7 at this year’s tournament.
In the D-I semifinals, top-seeded Kamehameha Kapalama defeated Moanalua 25-18, 25-22, 25-19, and Punahou was a 25-10, 25-12, 25-8 winner over No. 2 Mililani.
Third-seeded Hawaii Prep advanced to the D-II title match with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 over two-time defending champion Saint Francis, and will face Konawaena, which beat Waimea 25-20, 25-19, 25-23.
