UH rebounds with sweep of UC Irvine

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak by beating UC Irvine on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The scores were 25-22, 25-16, 25-23.

Emily Hartong had 12 kills and three aces and Mita Uiato finished with 26 assists for the Rainbow Wahine, ranked 13th by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Ali Longo added 18 digs and three aces for Hawaii (17-4, 6-3 Big West).

Hawaii’s Kalei Adolpho, a Molokai High School alumnus, had three kills and one block.

The Rainbow Wahine went on a 6-2 run to end the match. Hartong had two kills and Longo and Tayler Higgins each had an ace during the rally.

UH was coming off five-set road losses to Cal State Northridge and UC Davis.

Arielle Manz had eight kills and Shelly Anderson finished with 28 assists for UC Irvine (11-11, 2-6).

The Rainbow Wahine host Long Beach State today.
