BHS defeats Maui 2-1 in girls soccer
The Baldwin High School girls soccer team knocked Maui High from the unbeaten ranks in the Maui Interscholastic League with a 2-1 win Wednesday at the Sabers’ on-campus field.
The result leaves the Sabers at 2-1-0 in MIL play, while Baldwin improved to 1-1-0.
The Bears’ Casey Lynn Navarro scored off a header in the fifth minute and Sara Nomura scored in the first minute of the second half on a 10-yard chip over Maui High goalkeeper Keola Allen for a 2-0 Baldwin lead.
Tiare Lucas scored on a 20-yard free kick in the 50th minute, and the Sabers came close to the equalizer after that, according to coach Tony Medeiros.
“We should have won the game, we had a lot of chances after Tiare’s goal,” Medeiros said. “Chance after chance. The ball didn’t want to go in the goal for us today. It’s a tough loss to accept for us, but we have got to move on.”
Attempts to reach Baldwin’s coaches were unsuccessful.
