Dufner commits to Tournament of Champions field

PGA champion Jason Dufner will be part of the field for next month’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions at the Kapalua Plantation Course, event officials announced Friday.

Dufner earned his first major title in August, helped by a second-round 63 that broke the competitive course record on the East Course at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, N.Y.

Dufner, No. 15 in the world rankings and 16th on last season’s PGA Tour money list, had four other top-10 finishes in 2013, including a tie for fourth at the U.S. Open. In October he went 3-0-1 for the U.S. team at the Presidents Cup in his initial appearance at the event. The three-time tour winner also made his Tournament of Champions debut this year, and finished in a tie for 18th.

The 2014 tournament, which for the first time will not be the opening event of the tour season, is scheduled for Jan. 3-6.

Others who have confirmed they will be part of the field, limited to tour winners from the previous 12 months, include defending champion Dustin Johnson, reigning Masters champion Adam Scott, who won The Barclays as well, and Matt Kuchar and Brandt Snedeker, also two-time winners last season.
