Molokai takes girls race

The Molokai High School girls crew earned its first Maui Interscholastic League canoe paddling victory of the season Saturday in regatta No. 2 at Kahului Harbor, while the Baldwin boys and Seabury Hall mixed crews each won for the second time.

The Farmers’ girls crew of Kelsie Tanabe-Espiritu, Heather Place, Oli’i Hernandez, Waipuna Paleka, Chelsea Pua’a and Hi’ilani Kanuha won in 4 minutes, 44.25 seconds. King Kekaulike was second in 4:45.79, after placing third in the season opener last weekend. Seabury, last week’s winner, was third on Saturday in 4:50.38.

The Spartans mixed team of Kamaile Lee, Adam Ferrier, Mikaela McDaniel, Carter Christie, Ashley Tanga and Mogul Lu’uwai posted a time of 4:12.85 on Saturday. Kamehameha Maui was second for the second straight week, in 4:17.68.

The Bears’ Kellen Bean, Palekana Pamat-Hett, Matthew Vanni, Tyson Felicilda, Chase Kuluhiwa-Rodrigues and Kyle Knutson finished in 3:58.70 in the boys race. Seabury earned its second runner-up finish of the year with a time of 4:02.97.
