Rainbow Wahine’s season ends in NCAA tournament’s second round

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team had its season reach an end Saturday night with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-13 loss to Brigham Young in an NCAA tournament second-round match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Emily Hartong had 17 kills and eight digs for the Rainbow Wahine, who finish 25-5. Nikki Taylor added seven kills and five digs. Molokai High School graduate Kalei Adolpho had four kills, and Kamehameha Maui graduate Ginger Long had a dig.

BYU had a hitting percentage of .340, while UH finished at .136 – including .025 in the final set – with 25 errors.

Alexa Gray had 13 kills for the Cougars (24-6), who will face sixth-seeded Southern California in a regional semifinal match Friday in Los Angeles. Tambre Haddock added 11 kills and 11 digs.

Hawaii bowed out of the tournament in the second round for the second straight year.
