Rangers could go after Suzuki
The Texas Rangers are “strongly considering” free-agent catcher Kurt Suzuki, according to a story posted Tuesday on the team’s website.
The 30-year-old Suzuki, a Baldwin High School graduate, batted .232 with five home runs and 32 RBIs with the Washington Nationals and Oakland Athletics this year. The A’s declined an $8.5 million option on him last month.
The Rangers would likely use Suzuki as a backup to Geovany Soto.
Texas acquired outfielder Michael Choice and minor league infielder Chris Bostick in a trade with Oakland on Tuesday, in exchange for outfielder Craig Gentry and right-hander Josh Lindblom.
