UH topples Idaho State in four sets

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team needed four sets to put away Idaho State in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The Rainbow Wahine won the match 25-16, 19-25, 25-12, 25-13.

Eleventh-seeded UH (25-4) will face Brigham Young, a five-set winner over Arizona State earlier Friday, tonight at 7 in a second-round match to be televised on OC16.

The winner will advance to play sixth-seeded Southern California next Friday in Seattle.

Emily Hartong led UH with 21 kills while hitting .514 and also had three aces and six digs. Ali Longo added five aces and 15 digs.

Kalei Adolpho, a Molokai High School graduate, had nine kills, hit .500 and added one block.

Nikki Taylor had 11 kills, while Tai Manu-Olevao added nine for the Rainbow Wahine. Mita Uiato had 41 assists.

Tressa Lyman had 13 kills for the Bengals (23-12).
