UH women squander halftime lead in loss to Southern Cal

The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team couldn’t hold a 10-point halftime lead and fell 66-55 to Southern Cal on Saturday in Los Angeles.

Ashleigh Karaitiana finished with 13 points and six assists and Shawna-Lei Kuehu and Morgan Mason each added 10 points for the Rainbow Wahine, who led 33-23 at the intermission.

Kalei Adolpho, a Molokai High School graduate, played three minutes in her season debut for the Rainbow Wahine. She recently competed for the UH volleyball team.

Rainbow Wahine coach Laura Beeman was a Trojans assistant from 2010 to 2012.

Hawaii made just seven of 28 field-goal attempts in the second half, while Southern Cal went 13-of-23.

Ariya Cook finished with 18 points and Cassie Harberts had 16 for the Trojans, who held a 45-29 rebounding advantage.

Both teams are 6-5.

The Rainbow Wahine will play at Grand Canyon on Monday.
