Bears defeat Lunas, enter tie for second

The Baldwin High School girls soccer team entered a tie for second place in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I standings on Monday with a 9-1 victory over Lahainaluna at the Maui High field in Kahului.

Sarah Nomura scored twice for the Bears (8-3-0), who pulled even with the Sabers in the race for the league’s second berth in the D-I state tournament. Maui High and Baldwin each have one game remaining in their regular seasons – if they finish tied in the standings, they would meet in a playoff on Thursday.

Kamehameha Maui has already secured the league title.

Kacey Navarro, Ashley Souza, Brianne Cremer, Zoe Eto, Kaena Anguay, Bailey Sato and Christine Kenagy each scored one goal for Baldwin on Monday.

The Lunas finish their season 4-8.
