Lunas win 99th straight league game
LAHAINA – The Lahainaluna High School girls basketball team ran its Maui Interscholastic League all-sport-record winning streak to 99 with a 77-14 win over King Kekaulike on Wednesday.
Taylor Bates scored 18 points and Loke Basques added 17 for the Lunas (12-0), who finished their seventh straight perfect regular league season.
The Lunas, ranked first in the state by scoringlive.com and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, can reach 100 straight wins in MIL play next Thursday in the MIL tournament.
“It’s incredible,” Lahainaluna coach Todd Rickard said. “A lot of this has been from the past teams – it’s the whole program in general. To sustain this and continue this streak is just unheard of.”
Dasya Tavares scored 11 points for Na Alii (8-4).
Maui High Girls 53, Baldwin 51
At Kahului, Liana Tanaka scored 17 points as the Sabers (6-6) held off the Bears (4-8).
Maui High led by 15 points early in the second half before Baldwin tied it at 51-51.
Brittnie Suda-Molina hit the go-ahead free throw with 15 seconds left and Jasmine Cabajar added another with 8 seconds remaining.
Kiana Kalehuawehe and Noelle Johnson each scored 12 points for Baldwin.
