Sabers defeat Trojans; playoff appears likely
Tiana Lucas, Feofa’aki Moa-Sam Fong and Mary-lyn Johannes each scored two goals and Kylie Cortez had four assists as the Maui High School girls soccer team concluded its Maui Interscholastic League regular season with a 9-0 win over St. Anthony in heavy Kahului rain Tuesday, likely setting up a playoff match with Baldwin for second place in Division I.
The Sabers (8-4-0), moved three points ahead of the Bears. If Baldwin beats Seabury Hall today in the league’s regular-season finale, the Bears and Sabers will meet Thursday for the league’s second state tournament berth. Kamehameha Maui has already clinched the MIL D-I title.
Cortez assisted on both of Lucas’ goals, on one by Moa-Sam Fong and on a goal by Sariah Kamalani. Azita Rod-rigues and Tiare Lucas also scored for the Sabers.
Alysha Miyazono, Cassie Arakawa and Allie Roberts each had an assist.
The Trojans finish their season 0-12-0.
