Maui High boys claim sole possession of division lead

The Maui High School boys tennis team defeated St. Anthony 4-1 on Monday at Kahului Community Center in a matchup of the two teams in the Maui Interscholastic League West Division that began the day undefeated.

St. Anthony won the girls match 4-1 to remain perfect this season and enter a tie for first place with Lahainaluna – the Lunas and Trojans are to meet Wednesday.

In the boys match, the Sabers (3-0) swept singles play – Joey Baldwin defeated Jack Merrett 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Devan Kepler didn’t drop a game against Jason Runyan at No. 2 and Eric Lazo earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bryant Sanchez at No. 3.

The Trojans fell to 2-1.

A doubles sweep helped the St. Anthony girls team improve to 3-0. Ali Hanna teamed with Ivana Vega for a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Sydney Green and Samantha Segundo at No. 1, while Megan Dorheim and Laura Dodson won by default at No. 2.

Maui High is 0-3.
