Tolutau chosen for U.S. junior rugby team

Vili Tolutau is among the 26 players who were selected Thursday for the U.S. team that will compete in the International Rugby Board’s Junior World Trophy next month in Hong Kong.

Tolutau, a 2012 graduate of Baldwin High School who now plays for Central Washington University, was on the U.S. team in last year’s junior world championships in France. He is one of two players from that squad selected to compete in Hong Kong, along with Zach Bonte.

The Junior World Trophy is scheduled for April 7-19.

“I’m really excited to see how they come together in Hong Kong,” U.S. assistant coach Justin Fitzpatrick said on USA Rugby’s website.

Tolutau, who will playing on a national team for the fifth time, totaled five tries in two matches for Central Washington earlier this month at the Cascade Cup at Ellensburg, Wash. – three in a 94-0 win over Western Washington and two in a 57-0 victory over Eastern Washington in the title game.
