Baldwin golfers off to strong start
One day after winning the Maui Interscholastic League boys team title, Baldwin High School golfers posted four of the best five scores in the opening round of the individual championship Saturday at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course.
Justin Ngan shot 68 to take a three-shot lead on Ariel Elftman-Hanson in the five-round event. Tyler Munetake carded a 73, and John Kaylan Dumo had a 74, as did Lucas Park of Kamehameha Maui.
Baldwin went 14-0 in team competition this year, finishing off the perfect regular season with a win over Lahainaluna.
The Bears’ Kimberlie Miyamoto led the girls competition with a 75.
Teammate Kirsten Ishikawa was four shots back, tied for second with Jasmine Cabajar of Maui High. The Sabers’ Kristeena Locke, last year’s champion, had an 80. Baldwin’s Kaylee Shimizu opened with an 81.
The second round is scheduled for Friday at Kahili Golf Course in Waikapu.
