Cabajar, Miyamoto trail by 10 shots

Baldwin High School’s Kimberlie Miyamoto and Maui High’s Jasmine Cabajar each shot 6-over-par 78 in the first round of the David S. Ishii Girls Golf State Championship on Monday at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course on Oahu, leaving them tied for 12th place, 10 shots out of the lead.

Keilyn Ing was in front after a 68, helping Iolani top the team standings with a 3-under score of 213.

Mariel Galdiano of Punahou was in second place after a 70, and the Buffanblu were second in the team standings, four shots back.

Baldwin (240), this year’s Maui Interscholastic League team champion, was fourth, and Maui High (250) was sixth.

Miyamoto, who won the MIL individual title by 23 shots, had four bogeys and a double bogey in her round. Cabajar had a birdie, three bogeys and two double bogeys.

Baldwin’s Kaylee Shimizu and Lahainaluna’s Caitlyn Villatora were two of seven players tied for 17th at 8 over.

Baldwin’s Kirsten Ishikawa shot 82, Lahainaluna’s Caylyn Villatora had an 84, Maui High’s Anna Apana and Kristeena Locke each opened with rounds of 86, the Sabers’ Taylor Akamine was at 88 and the Bears’ Erin Kobayashi had a 92.
