D-II season ends with four-way tie at the top

Danica Cooley hit a grand slam in the second inning and picked up the victory on the mound as the Seabury Hall softball team beat Molokai 9-8 on Wednesday at Duke Maliu Regional Park, forging a four-way tie atop the Division II standings to conclude the regular season.

Cooley allowed one run in 2 2/3 innings of relief for the Spartans, who are tied with Hana, Lanai and Molokai at 5-3.

In the Seabury Hall sixth, Pili Hao-Meyer had a game-tying RBI double and Rachel Lopez had a go-ahead run-scoring ground out.

The four teams will meet in a championship playoff today at Duke Maliu Regional Park to determine seeding for the tournament, which starts Friday.

Caylee Ledesma scored twice for the Farmers on Wednesday.

Maui High 4, King Kekaulike 2

At Patsy Mink Field, Kaimi Lay-Fuentes hit a game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Sabers in a Division I tournament first-round game.

Lay-Fuentes’ one-out shot to left field scored Shane Spencer.

The Sabers will face Baldwin today at 5 p.m. Lahainaluna and Kamehameha Maui will play in the game that follows.
