Five judoka record third wins of year
Kalai Joy and Jaime Hoe each won for the third time in three Maui Interscholastic League judo tournaments on Saturday at the Maui High gym in Kahului.
Joy won the 109-pound girls division, and Hoe was the 139 champion. Na Alii had four girls champions altogether. Hilaloakahekili Palakiko won at 129, part of the team’s sweep of the division’s top three spots, and Siara-Lyn Cernai-Martelles won at 103.
Two girls from Maui High also remained perfect this season – Chelsey Chaves led the Sabers’ sweep of the top three spots at 98 pounds, and Ashley Morris won at 154. Maui High’s Alexandra Jeanel Pardico won at 220.
Baldwin had two winners – Crystal Yokoyama at 115, and Kami Kutsunai at 122.
Troy Waki earned his third boys title of the year in leading a Baldwin sweep at 161. The Bears’ Joshua Farin (108), John Hoopii (114) and Keian Inouye (145) also won.
King Kekaulike had three boys winners – Hollis Atkinson (121), Jonathan Jacinto (178) and Joseph Metz (280).
Maui High’s Tyler John White took first place at 132, and Kamehameha Maui’s Owen Taua won at 220.
