Na Alii win seven judo titles
King Kekaulike High School’s Kalai Joy and Jaime Hoe each improved to 2-for-2 in Maui Interscholastic League judo tournaments by winning titles Saturday at Kamehameha Maui’s Kaulaheanuiokamoku Gym in Pukalani, and seven athletes finished first for Na Alii overall.
Joy was the girls 109-pound winner after sharing the 103 title in the opener, and Hoe repeated at 139. Alyssa Fusato won at 129.
In boys competition, King Kekaulike’s winners were Daniel Ai, Hollis Atkinson, Aukai Joy and Jonathan Jacinto.
Two girls from Maui High won for the second time – Chelsey Chaves at 98 after being the co-champion at 103 last week, and Ashley Morris at 154. Alexandra Jeanel Pardico won at 172.
Baldwin’s Troy Waki won his second straight boys 161 title, and Keian Inouye finished first at 145. The Bears’ girls champions were Crystal Yokoyama (155) and Kami Kutsunai (122).
Aaron Morton of Kamehameha Maui won the boys 285 crown.
