Schweitzer records second-best score in Stand Up World Tour event’s early heats
Zane Schweitzer of Lahaina had the second-best score in the 12 heats completed Sunday in the third event on the Stand Up World Tour, the Abu Dhabi All Stars Grand Slam in the United Arab Emirates.
Schweitzer, who won the event last year, had a 16.9, with a top wave score of 8.5.
Sean Poynter of Florida was the leader at 17.2 – including the top wave of the day, a 9.2 – in the man-made pool at Wadi Adventure Park.
Four more first-round heats are to be completed today, and a repecharge round is also scheduled.
Kody Kerbox (15.4) of Haiku was tied for seventh, and Pukalani’s Connor Baxter, coming off a sweep of the Stand Up World Series’ two Alagoas Pro Grand Slam events in Brazil, was tied for 16th at 11.6.
Schweitzer is fourth in the Stand Up World Tour season rankings. Brazil’s Caio Vaz leads the standings after winning each of the first two events, Australia’s Keahi de Aboitiz is second and Spreckelsville’s Kai Lenny, who won the series title for a third time last year, is third.
