King Kekaulike to host Waianae; Baldwin also in quarterfinals

King Kekaulike High School will face Waianae today in a New City Nissan Division I Boys Volleyball State Championship quarterfinal match at Na Alii’s gym in Pukalani after the Seariders swept Leilehua on Friday in a first-round match at the Iolani gym on Oahu.

Baldwin also moved into the quarterfinal round, with a four-set win over Campbell at Moanalua.

The Bears defeated the Sabers 25-22, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, getting 15 kills from Ryan Garces, 13 from Afoa Laga and 10 from Trent Helle. Baldwin (9-5) will play second-seeded Moanalua today at Na Menehune’s gym.

Garces also had eight digs, and Laga had seven, while Helle contributed eight blocks. Braydon Kaiama had 38 assists.

Eugene Pouesi had 14 kills for Campbell (10-5).

Waianae earned a meeting with fourth-seeded King Kekaulike by winning 25-20, 27-25, 25-22.

The Seariders are now 10-6. The Mules dropped to 13-3.
