MIL track athletes have 11 top marks

The Maui Interscholastic League has 11 top marks going into the Island Movers State Track and Field Championships that begin with qualifying tonight at the Kamehameha Kapalama track.

Dakota Grossman, Seabury Hall’s eight-time state champion, is No. 1 in the 1,500 (4 minutes, 42.85 seconds) and 3,000 (10:22.88). She is also second in the 800 (2:18.01), and will anchor the Spartans’ third-ranked 1,600 relay (4:02.78). Her 3,000 mark is 24 seconds faster than second place and she is the three-time defending champion in the event.

Seabury teammate Alyssa Bettendorf is No. 1 in the long jump (18-3 1/2), 100 (12.05) and 200 (24.49). She is also third in the 400 (57.82), right behind Kihei Charter freshman Maya Reynolds (56.77).

Kauanoe Vanderpoel of Kamehameha Maui has the top qualifying mark in the boys shot put (53-8 1/2). He is second in the discus (159-11).

Jay Braun of King Kekaulike is tops in the 100 (10.93) and 200 (22.18). He also anchors the top-ranked 400 relay team (43.44).

Baldwin’s Dusty Flores has the top mark in boys pole vault (14-3) and Daniel Pietsch of Seabury Hall is first in the 400 (49.73).
