Sabers lose to Cougars

Maui High School was sent to the consolation bracket of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I State Baseball Championship with an 8-3 loss to Kaiser on Tuesday at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

The Sabers (11-5) will play Thursday against Roosevelt for a berth in the seventh place game.

Fourth-seeded Baldwin received a bye to today’s quarterfinal round, and will face Kailua, which beat Aiea 5-4 on Tuesday.

Maui High scored all its runs in the bottom of the seventh inning – Callen Beeson hit an RBI single, and two runs scored on errors.

Beeson also pitched the final 5 1/3 innings for the Sabers, allowing two runs.

Maui High’s Jordan Yagi-Kawaha had two hits.

Noah Sakatani pitched a complete game for the Cougars (12-5), and Curt Clivio drove in two runs.

Molokai, the No. 2 seed in the eight-team Division II tournament, will face Kauai today at Hans L’Orange Field.
