Victorino goes hitless in return from knee injury
BOSTON (AP) – Shane Victorino went 0-for-4 in his return to the Boston lineup after a two-game absence as the Red Sox lost 6-1 to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
Victorino, one of the major leagues’ two active Maui-born players, had been sidelined because of an injury to his left knee. The two-time All-Star wore a brace during Saturday’s game.
Miguel Cabrera hit a solo home run, a double and an RBI single for Detroit, and Rick Porcello (7-1) gave up one run on six hits in eight innings, striking out four batters and walking one.
Porcello has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his last six starts.
The Tigers won for the 10th straight time on the road, and 14th time in their last 17 games overall.
Boston’s John Lackey (5-3) gave up more than two runs for the first time in five starts, allowing six – five earned – in 5 1/3 innings.
The Red Sox have scored just one run in the first two games of the three-game series. They lost Friday’s opener 1-0.
