Braxton, Hayashi take title
David Braxton and Kyle Hayashi defeated Ben Hongo and Doug Bohn in an all-Maui playoff to win the Kaanapali Pro-Pro Championship on Monday at the Kaanapali Royal Course.
Braxton, a professional at Elleair Maui Golf Club in Kihei, and Hayashi, who is not affiliated with a club, claimed the title in the Aloha Section PGA event when Hongo and Bohn, both from Kapalua, bogeyed the first extra hole.
Hayashi tapped in for par to secure the win.
Both teams closed with 7-under-par rounds of 64 to finish regulation at 12-under 130.
Braxton and Hayashi will share $3,000 for the victory. Hongo and Bohn won $2,000.
Braxton and Hayashi finished as the runners-up each of the previous two years.
“The third time’s a charm,” Braxton said.
Braxton and Hayashi did not have a bogey in the tournament.
“The Royal Course played great this weekend,” Braxton said. “It was set up with very good conditions.”
Kaanapali’s Roscoe Branch and David Haven, the first-round leaders, shot 68 to finish at 132, tied for third with Ryan Michimoto of Kapalua and Kevin Shimomura of Oahu’s Ko Olina Golf Club, who shot 65.
