Na Pua Ko claim state softball title

Na Pua Ko, a 12-and-under team from Maui, won its division title in the American Softball Association state tournament that took place from May 29 to Sunday at Central Oahu Regional Park.

The team won all six of its games on the final day to claim the title. Overall in 12 games, Na Pua Ko outscored its opponents 122-19.

The team roster comprised Jaden Viloria, Kylenna Rieta, Tejahlyn Kuloloia, Brie Shiozuki, Erin Prieto, Melia Paet, Haley Gomes, Jordan Vierra, Taylor Nobriga, Cynthia Jimenez, Dayna Siangco and Alia Harmon. The coaches were Dennis Nobriga, Susan Nobriga, Allan Prieto, Ryoji Shiozuki and Trisha Nobriga.

The title earned Na Pua Ko a berth in the ASA Western Nationals, scheduled for July 27-Aug. 3 in Roseville, Calif. The team is seeking donations to help pay for the trip to that event. For more information, call Susan Nobriga at 281-7165.

Another Maui team, Pono Gold, placed third in the division. The roster comprised Cierah Kusunoki, Analea Media, Kacey Sakamoto, Tamia Duldulao-Kahaialii, Raelynn Yoshida, Lola DeFrancia, Bryanna Yoshida, Shalei Awai, Malie Watanabe, Ilima Eleneki, Nanea Andrade, Francine Clarke and Jerriah Solomon. The coaches were Russ Nakanishi, Kai Andrade, Warner Duldulao-Kahaialii, Keith Sakamoto, Martin Paet and Ray Watanabe.
