Victorino begins rehab assignment

Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino began a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday, going hitless in two trips to the plate.

Victorino, a St. Anthony High School graduate, is on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring. The 33-year-old flied out and grounded out before being removed for a pinch hitter in the fifth inning of a 3-0 loss to Charlotte in the first game of a doubleheader.

Victorino was placed on the DL for the second time this season on May 24. He also missed the season’s first 22 games because of an injured right hamstring.

The two-time All-Star is batting .242 for Boston this year, with one home run and 10 RBIs.
