Victorino could rejoin Red Sox in coming weeks
The Boston Red Sox hope Shane Victorino, the only Maui-born All-Star in major league history, can return from the disabled list in the next few weeks, the team reported on its website Tuesday.
“We’re gonna get Victorino back, we’re going to get hopefully our core lineup out there more consistently moving forward – and we believe in that core lineup and that core group of players, and we believe we have a lot of wins in us with that core, without adding to it,” Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington was quoted as saying.
Victorino, 33, is running to test his strained right hamstring, but a rehabilitation assignment has not yet been scheduled, the Boston Globe reported Tuesday.
Victorino was placed on the DL for the second time this season on May 24. He also missed the season’s first 22 games due to an injured right hamstring.
The St. Anthony High School graduate is batting .242 with one home run and 10 RBIs this year.
