Schweitzer secures European Cup title

Zane Schweitzer of Lahaina clinched the Waterman League’s European Cup title on Saturday, remaining undefeated in the stand-up paddling tour’s events this year by claiming the overall crown at the stop in Sieravuori, Finland.

Schweitzer won the long-distance race on Saturday after placing second in the sprint competition.

Denmark’s Casper Steinfath, the sprint winner, finished second overall after a sixth-place performance in the distance race.

Last month, Schweitzer won the opening event, in Spain’s Basque Country, and then took first place at Oleron Island, off France’s Atlantic coast.

Two events remain in the European Cup – the next is scheduled for July 18-20 in Germany, and will also serve as a Stand Up World Series competition. Schweitzer is third in the World Series standings, behind two other Mauians – Connor Baxter is the leader, and Kai Lenny is second.
