Jan. 31-The Run and Walk for the Whales – with half marathon, 10K, 5K and 2.5-mile walk events – is set for Jan. 31. The course starts and ends at the Ma’alaea Harbor Shops, two weeks before the annual World Whale Day festivities held at Kalama Park, also hosted by Pacific Whale Foundation. The event has four price brackets: the half marathon is $45, the 10K is $40, the 5K is $35 and the 2.5-mile walk is $20. Registration fees will increase on Sept. 1 and closes at packet pick up. July 26-The Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui’s “Going Green on the Greens” golf fundraiser is scheduled for July 26 at Pukalani Country Club, with a 7 a.m. shotgun start. The per-person entry fee for the four-person, best-ball scramble is $100 in advance and $120 at the door, which also pays for greens fees, use of a cart, gifts, breakfast, lunch, on-course snacks and refreshments and entry into multiple contests, including a $10,000 hole-in-one competition. Aug. 2-3-The 60th annual Maui Women’s Golf Invitational is scheduled for Aug. 2-3 at Kaanapali Kai and Royal courses. The fee for the event, open to all women players 18 years or older with a handicap of no more than 33.5 as of June 15, is $160, which also pays for entry into closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one contests.
