Back surgery ends season for Victorino
Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino underwent season-ending surgery on his lower back Tuesday, the team reported on its website.
The 33-year-old Victorino, a St. Anthony High School graduate, was placed on the disabled list for the third time this season Friday.
Victorino tweeted the message: “Surgery today was successful. Thanks for all your well wishes!” He then added as a hashtag: “EveryLittleThingGonBeAlright.”
Victorino was operated on by Dr. Robert Watkins in California, and the Red Sox were waiting for the final results before setting a time-table for the two-time All-Star’s recovery, the team said.
Victorino’s previous two stints on the DL this year were because of hamstring injuries.
Victorino has played in just 30 games this season, batting .268 with two home runs, 12 RBIs, 14 runs and two stolen bases.
