Bloch finishes as runner-up in 50 back B final

Former Maui resident Chase Bloch placed second in the B final of the 50-meter backstroke at the U.S. swimming national championships on Friday in Irvine, Calif.

Bloch had a time of 25.77 seconds, 0.20 behind Bryce Bohman. The winner of the A final, for the top eight preliminary finishers, was David Plummer in 24.82.

Bloch had advanced with a preliminary time of 26.00.

Seabury Hall graduate Renny Richmond swam the 100 butterfly in 53.99, finishing 31st. Richmond placed third in the 50 butterfly B final Thursday, in 24.07.

Bloch was eligible for the 100 butterfly, but did not start.

Bloch has qualified for today’s 100 backstroke competition, and Richmond is eligible for Sunday’s 50 freestyle.
