Lahainaluna-Keaau football game called off, others still set to go

The preseason high school football game set for Friday between Lahainaluna and Keaau high schools has been cancelled off due to concerns about Hurricane Iselle. The game was set for War Memorial Stadium.

“Keaau decided they did not want to take a chance and come over,” said Joe Balangitao, the Maui Interscholastic League executive director. “They have to keep safety in mind and the storm is set to hit the Big Island first.”

Two other preseason games set for the Valley Isle this weekend are still tentatively set to be played, according to Balangitao.

An all-star team from Alberta, Canada, is scheduled to play against King Kekaulike at King Kekaulike Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Canadian team is already on Maui and King Kekaulike Athletic Director P.K. Higa said that game could be moved to Saturday, if necessary due to weather conditions. He said a decision will be made on Thursday morning.

Farrington is still scheduled to play Baldwin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at War Memorial.

Kamehameha Maui is scheduled to play Iolani on Saturday at Aloha Stadium at 7 p.m., which is also still set to happen.
