Jets sign Finau to practice squad
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – Defensive tackle Tevita Finau was among seven players who signed with the New York Jets’ practice squad Sunday.
The 28-year old Finau, who played at Lahainaluna High School and Maui High before graduating from Kahuku, had six tackles, including a sack, in the Jets’ four preseason games this year. He was left off the team’s 53-player roster announced Saturday.
Finau has also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys, but has not been on a regular-season roster.
Defensive lineman Kerry Hyder, safety Rontez Miles, tight end Chris Pantale, quarterback Matt Simms, offensive tackle Brent Qvale and running back Daryl Richardson also were signed to the practice squad.
Additionally, the Jets claimed cornerback Leon McFadden off waivers from the Cleveland Browns and released cornerback LeQuan Lewis. McFadden played in all 16 games and started two for the Browns as a rookie last year, finishing with 19 total tackles.
The Jets are without top cornerback Dee Milliner, who is recovering from an ankle sprain. Dimitri Patterson, projected as the other starter, was released Saturday after he didn’t show for the Jets’ preseason game on Aug. 22 and the team said he didn’t talk directly to anyone in the organization for 48 hours.
