Hana loses to La Pietra at D-II volleyball state tourney

The Hana High School girls volleyball team lost to La Pietra 25-13, 25-23, 25-17 in the first round of the New City Nissan Division II State Championship on Wednesday at McKinley High’s gym on Oahu.

Jaynalee Hoopai had nine kills, Precious Helekahi finished with 23 assists and Mehana Kahalehoe had 20 digs for the Dragons (9-4).

Hana will play Kauai in a consolation match today at 3:30 p.m. at McKinley.

Savana Breene had 13 kills, Peri Green added 11 and Carmen Sharkey finished with 30 assists for the Lady Panthers (10-6), who will face No. 1 seed Konawaena today in a quarterfinal match.

No. 2 seed Seabury Hall, the Maui Interscholastic League champion, will play Kailua in a quarterfinal match today at 5 p.m. at Kaimuki.

On Wednesday at Kaimuki, the Surfriders defeated Honokaa 25-16, 25-13, 25-19.
