Kemper, three other Mauians advance at Reef Hawaiian Pro

Billy Kemper of Kuau won his heat and three other Mauians advanced to the second round of the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Alii Beach Park in Haleiwa, Oahu.

Olamana Eleogram of Hana scored a perfect 10 in the 25-foot surf, but was called for a priority interference and finished fourth in his heat.

Kemper won his four-man heat with a two-wave score of 15.83 – the second-highest total of the day behind Oahu’s Ezekiel Lau (18.53).

Ian Gentil (12.33) of Paia, Ian Walsh (11.67) of Kuau and Dusty Payne (10.83) of Lahaina all advanced by finishing second in their respective heats.

Kemper and Gentil will be competing in the same heat in the second round, which is scheduled to take place today, conditions permitting.

The other Mauians who failed to advance were Imaikalani Devault of Makawao (third, 10.97), Hank Gaskell of Hana (third, 9.44), Kai Barger of Haiku (third, 6.10) and Granger Larsen of Napili (fourth, 3.17).
