Kaalekahi places 13th at state air riflery

McGrath is MIL’s top girls finisher

The Maui News – Molokai High School’s Jershon Kaalekahi was Maui Interscholastic League’s top finisher Tuesday at the Civilian Marksmanship Program State Air Riflery Championships, taking 13th place in the boys division at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall in Honolulu.

Kaalekahi had a score of 522, with a 189 prone, 155 standing and 178 kneeling.

Kalaheo’s Justin Pascua won with a 641.

The top girls finisher from the MIL was St. Anthony’s Fiona McGrath, who tied for 24th place with a 519 (190 prone, 158 standing, 171 kneeling).

Lauren Kadooka of Kailua won with a 640.

MIL boys champion Kody Cambra of Kamehameha Maui tied for 15th with a 520.

The league’s other boys competitors were Kamehameha Maui’s Jacob Julian (512, tied for 23rd), Joshua Grant (469, 59th) and Cole Tancayo (453, 60th), King Kekau-like’s Quinton Uradomo (505, tied for 29th), Baldwin’s Tristin Shelton (503, 33rd) and Jacob Platiro (470, tied for 55th) and Maui High’s Wesley Sakutori, who also had a 470.

Moanalua won the title title with a score of 2,091. Kamehameha Maui (1,954) finished fifth.

St. Anthony’s Gabrielle Ramos tied for 40th in the girls competition with a 498, Jasmine Nakamoto was 45th with a 496 and Claire Parker tied for 49th with a 489. Baldwin’s Emi Sakumoto, the MIL champion, also shot 489, and Kaysha Villa-verde (438) was 60th. Maui High’s Shmily Versola (491) was 46th, King Kekaulike’s Katebel Jose (476) was 56th and Kamehameha Maui’s Kela Kauhaahaa (475) was 57th.

Punahou won the team title with a 2,137. St. Anthony placed fifth with a 2,002.
