Kamehameha Maui to host first-round volleyball match

Warriors, Governors meet Monday for right to face Kahuku

Kamehameha Schools Maui will play at home against Farrington on Monday in a New City Nissan Girls Volleyball Division I State Championship first-round match.

The Hawaii High School Athletic Association posted the brackets late Friday.

The winner of the meeting between the Warriors and Governors at Kaulaheanuiokamoku Gym in Pukalani will play a quarterfinal match against top-seeded Kahuku on Thursday at McKinley.

Kamehameha Maui, which has gone to the state tournament in all 14 years of the program’s existence, lost in the consolation final last year.

King Kekaulike received the No. 3 seed after winning its third consecutive Maui Interscholastic League title Friday, and will play Thursday at Moanalua against the winner of Monday’s match between Mililani and Kalaheo.

Na Alii lost in the fifth-place semifinals last year.

Molokai is to face Kohala on Wednesday at Kaimuki in the first round of the Division II tournament. The winner will play top-seeded Hawaii Baptist, the defending champion, in the quarterfinals the next day.

Hana was seeded third, and will play Thursday at St. Francis against the winner of Wednesday’s match between Le Jardin and Honokaa.

Hana, which on Friday won its first MIL title since 1978, is in the state tournament for a fifth consecutive year. The Dragons lost both their state matches last season.

The Farmers are making their first appearance since 2011.

Kamehameha Kapalama, last year’s D-I champion, is seeded second this season. Hilo received the No. 4 seed.

Konawaena is the No. 2 seed in D-II, and Waianae is seeded fourth.
