Na Alii move into state volleyball semifinals; Dragons, Farmers lose

Chandler Cowell had 24 kills as King Kekaulike High School won 20-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-23 over Kalaheo in a New City Nissan Girls Volleyball Division I State Championship quarterfinal match Thursday at the Moanalua gym on Oahu.
Both of the Maui Interscholastic League teams in the Division II tournament — Molokai and Hana — were swept and sent to the fifth-place semifinals.
Kanilea Nomura had 12 kills for the third-seeded Na Alii (15-0), who play Friday against second-seeded Kamehameha Kapalama for a spot in the title match. The Warriors won 25-13, 25-21, 25-15 over Kapolei on Thursday.
King Kekaulike’s Kalena Vaivai had 24 assists, 10 digs and four blocks, and Mekaila Makahanaloa added 12 digs.
Syenna Masaki had 10 kills for the Mustangs (11-6).
No. 3 Hana lost for the first time this year, 25-15, 25-5, 25-16 to Le Jardin at St. Francis. Molokai lost 25-8, 25-4, 25-12 to top-seeded Hawaii Baptist at Kaimuki.
Jaylin Victorine-Dyment and Nohokulaalohalani Lind each had five kills for the Dragons (12-1), who will play Konawaena on Friday.
The Bulldogs (12-3) got 15 kills from Julia Fisher.
Lorralyn-Shai Rawlins and Shaelyn McCutcheon each had three kills for the Farmers (10-4), who will next face Waianae.
Keri Lum had 11 kills for the Eagles, who are seeking a second straight championship, and fifth in the last 10 years.
