Maui to host Fed Cup matches in February
The Royal Lahaina Resort will host Fed Cup matches between the United States and Germany in February, the USTA announced Wednesday.
Play will begin with singles on Feb. 11, followed by reverse singles and the doubles match on Feb. 12.
Fed Cup matches were played on the Big Island this year – the U.S. team of Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens, CoCo Vandeweghe and Bethanie Mattek-Sands won 4-0 over Poland.
The German team coming to Maui is expected to include Angelique Kerber, who is No. 1 in the WTA rankings.
“We are proud to bring Fed Cup back to Hawaii,” said Katrina Adams, the USTA’s chairman, CEO and president.
“Maui will be the perfect fit for us next year.”
Tickets are to go on sale on Nov. 18 at usta.com/fedcup.
The winner of the match between the U.S. and Germany will face Spain or the Czech Republic in the semifinals, scheduled for April 22-23.
