McNabb wins seven state golds

Vincent McNabb was the biggest winner among Maui County swimmers in the state short-course championships that took place Friday to Monday at Veteran’s Memorial Aquatic Center on Oahu, earning six individual titles and competing on a first-place relay team.

Racing in the boys 11-12 division, McNabb won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.71 seconds, the 200 freestyle in 1:58.27, the 50 backstroke in 27.57, the 100 freestyle in 54.10, the 200 backstroke in 2:08.04 and the 200 individual medley in 2:09.37. He and Hawaii Swim Club teammates Luke Camacho, Thomas Myers and Ken Nakatsu won the 200 freestyle relay 1:44.64

Kysha Altura and Jordynn Brown of Hawaii Swim Club and Maui Swim Club’s Patrick Garduque each won four events.

Altura’s victories were in the girls 15-16 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 200 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Brown won the girls 13-14 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley,

50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Garduque was the boys 11-12 champion in the 50 butterfly, 100 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

Jasmine O’Brien of Hawaii Swim Club won the girls 15-16 1,650, 1,000 and 500 freestyle.

Tulip Hori of Maui Swim Club took first place in the girls 10-and-under 100 and 50 backstroke. In the girls 13-14 division, Lexi Anderson of Lahaina Swim Club won the 100 and 200 butterfly. Lahaina Swim Club’s Jared Gaastra won the boys 17-18 1,000 and 500 freestyle.

Hawaii Swim Club’s Niji Wada was on the winning teams in the boys 10-and-under 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay, and Lahaina Swim Club’s Mathew Iverson won the boys 11-12 500 freestyle.
