Thomas wins SBS Tournament of Champions
KAPALUA — Justin Thomas won the SBS Tournament of Champions on Sunday at the Kapalua Plantation Course, giving him three career victories on the PGA Tour.
Thomas won by three shots — he overcame a double bogey on the par-5 15th hole and closed with a 4-under-par 69 to finish at 22-under 270, fending off a challenge by Hideki Matsuyama.
Thomas was the only player in the field of 32 to shoot under 70 in all four rounds.
Thomas’ previous two wins were at the CIMB Classic in October and in 2015. His victory a year ago was the only event Matsuyama had not won in his previous five worldwide starts.
Matsuyama shot 70 on Sunday.
Jordan Spieth, last year’s Kapalua winner, shot a 65 to finish tied for third at 16 under with Pat Perez (67) and Ryan Moore (71).
