Bears beat Trojans on extra PKs

The Maui News – The undefeated Baldwin High School boys soccer team reached the Division I semifinals of The Queen’s Medical Center State Championships by beating Mililani 1-0 in a game decided by extra penalty kicks Thursday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex on Oahu.

Caleb Soo Hoo scored the game-ending goal on the sixth penalty kick after each team converted four of their first five. Neither team scored in regulation and two overtimes.

The third-seeded Bears (10-0-3) will play today against Kaiser, which won 2-1 over No. 2 Iolani in Thursday’s final match.

The Trojans fell to 11-2-1.

Seabury Hall lost 5-3 to No. 4 Kailua in a Division II quarterfinal.

The Surfriders never trailed in improving to 9-2-2.

The Spartans (2-10-1), who on three occasions cut their deficit to a goal, will play in a consolation game today against Makua Lani, which lost 5-1 to top-seeded Hawaii Prep.

Nick Faulkner scored for Kailua in the sixth minute and Ripley Quebral added a goal in the ninth. Quintin Tanaka got the Spartans on the board in the 13th. Kailua’s Dylan Pedrina scored in the 18th and again in the 68th, eight minutes after a goal by Seabury’s Louie Smith.

Thomas Lee scored for Seabury in the 75th. Quebral scored his second goal in the 77th.
