Wintermeyer leads third-quarter surge as Lunas top Warriors

Alicia Wintermeyer scored five goals, including four in the third quarter, as the Lahainaluna High School girls water polo team opened defense of its Maui Interscholastic League title with an 8-3 victory over Kamehameha Maui at the Warriors’ pool in Pukalani.
Julia Bianco added two goals and Nikki Zamani also scored for the Lunas, who led 3-2 at halftime before breaking away with a five-goal third quarter.
Goal scorers for Kamehameha Maui were Quinn Shiraishi, Nikki McGuire and Tiyanni Mahi.
In an earlier game at Kamehameha, King Kekaulike defeated Maui High 6-5. Goal scorers were not reported.
