The Maui News

Maui High School’s Chelsey Chaves, King Kekaulike’s Alyssa Fusato and Baldwin’s Joshua Farin, all three-time Maui Interscholastic League judo champions, opened their senior seasons with wins Saturday at the Kaulaheanuiokamoku Gym in Pukalani.

Chaves was the girls 115-pound first-place finisher, and Fusato won the 129 division — she placed fourth in the state tournament at that weight last year. Farin was the boys 145 winner — he was fifth in the state at 132 last season.

Maui High had four boys winners — Jayven Domingo (121), Joshua Rosetes (198), John Lee Sumibcay (220) and Chance Rodrigues (285). Domingo was last year’s MIL champ at 108.

Baldwin’s Colby Ravida won at 108, and Kealii Hudcovic-Dumaran won at 161. King Kekaulike’s winners were two-time league champion Colby Hanley Jr. at 132, and Chris Sobaje at 178.
