Seabury Hall senior Ava Shipman was named one of this year’s 12 inductees to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor on Monday.

Shipman won four state track and field titles during her high school career — including victories in the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters earlier this month on the Big Island that helped Seabury Hall to its second team championship in four years.

She was the 1,500 champion in 2015 as well.

Shipman was the runner-up in the state cross country meet in the fall, and the Spartans won the overall team title after taking the Division II championship each of the previous three years.

As a junior, Shipman won every Maui Interscholastic League cross country meet she entered, and she claimed 10 individual MIL track titles in her high school career.

The other inductees are Iolani’s Hugh Hogland (basketball and volleyball), Dane Yamashiro (wrestling and judo) and K.J. Pascua (football, wrestling and judo); Kahuku’s Kesi Ah-Hoy and Kekaula Kaniho (both for football and basketball); Konawaena’s Celena Molina (basketball and volleyball); Punahou’s Lia Foster (swimming); Saint Louis’ Tua Tagovailoa (football); Campbell’s Jocelyn Alo (wrestling and softball); Kamehameha Kapalama’s Kayla Afoa (volleyball and track and field); and Kaiser’s Kristen O’Handley (track and field and cross country).

A 16-person committee of current and former sports reporters, athletic directors and coaches made the selections. While athletic achievement is the main criterion, the Hall cites “character, sportsmanship, academic record and community service” as considerations as well.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for June 4 at the Dole Cannery Pomaikai Ballroom on Oahu. Each inductee also will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
