The Maui News 2017 MIL Judo All-Stars: Chaves, Fusato, Farin honored

Maui High School’s Chelsey Chaves, King Kekaulike’s Alyssa Fusato and Baldwin’s Joshua Farin are The Maui News Maui Interscholastic League Judo Athletes of the Year after winning every league tournament of the season on the way to becoming four-time MIL champions.
Chaves claimed this year’s girls 115-pound title, and Fusato won at 129. Farin was the boys 145 champion. Chaves went on to place fourth in the state tournament, and Farin finished sixth.
Baldwin, winner of the boys and girls league team titles, had four other individual MIL champions, who comprise the All-Star team. In girls competition, the Bears’ All-Stars are Tianna Fernandez (103), Madison Vierra (109) and Kimberly Taroma (139). The other boys All-Star from Baldwin is Terrance Harriman (220).
King Kekaulike had three boys All-Stars — Aidan Hanley (114), Colby Hanley Jr. (121) and Chris Sobaje (178).
Maui High’s Jabari Garcia (132), Aden Molina (198) and Chance Rodrigues (285), Molokai’s Ikua Deponte (161) and Kamehameha Maui’s Ezekiel Matutino (108) are the other boys All-Stars.
Molokai’s Cameryn Kahalewai (122), who finished sixth in the state, is a girls All-
Star, along with Maria Angst (98). Maui High’s Chloe Sijalbo (172) and Kamehameha Maui’s Keahi Johnson (154) were the other league champs.
