Seabury Hall senior Mackenzie Wilson is The Maui News Maui Interscholastic League Boys Tennis Player of the Year after claiming his second MIL title last month, and freshman Jessalyn Lopez, a Kihei Charter student who competed for Maui High, has earned the girls honor.

Wilson went 13-1 in singles play this year, with the only loss coming in the quarterfinals of the state tournament at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch.

He added the MIL singles crown to the doubles title he claimed last year with Shayan Shirkhodai.

In team play, Wilson helped Seabury go undefeated on the way to its third straight league championship.

Lopez won the MIL singles title and finished with a 15-1 singles record — she also reached the state quarterfinals. Lopez lost just one game in eight singles matches during team play.

Also on the boys All-Star team are Seabury’s Zack Walker and Corrado Rusnak, the MIL doubles champions, Maui High’s Hobbes Wilstead, Devon Baldwin, Jaymes Christopher and Alec Fonseca, and St. Anthony’s John Deinhardt.

Jaccie Hisashima and Emi Abe, who gave King Kekaulike its first MIL doubles championship, are on the girls All-Star team, along with three players from Baldwin, the MIL team champions — Kaui Kennedy, Nicole Matsui and Kayla Bisquera. Kamehameha Maui’s Kaitlyn Ralar, the league’s other state quarterfinalst, is an All-Star as well, along with Kayleen Lau.
