Bockius wins U.S. Nationals women’s title

Maui’s Tamara Bockius earned her fourth national title last week, winning the open women’s slalom division at the U.S. Windsurfing Nationals in Berkeley, Calif.

Bockius won the title as the only female competitor in the 20-sailor field. Last month, the 51-year-old mother of three won the women’s title at the Neil Pryde Hawaii State Championship at Kanaha Beach Park in Kahului — it was her sixth straight women’s state title and seventh in eight years.

“Windsurfing has been my main passion since I was 14 years old,” Bockius said via email.

“I am getting BETTER with age, not worse.”
